That the Corinthians wrote a letter full of questions and contentions to Paul in Ephesus is apparent. Struggling with pagan influences and Jewish controversies, the elders of the ecclesia raised at least 20 issues for Paul’s consideration.
This document is an attempt to reconstruct their letter from the citations, references and allusions found in Paul’s reply. Pronouncements on head-coverings and women’s silence are seen, in this context, to be more likely ‘Corinthian’ than ‘Pauline’.
