Blasphemy and Titus 2

“Let the aged women…train the young women…to be…keepers at home….subject to their own husbands, that the Word of God may not be blasphemed.” (2:3-5). This passage is sometimes understood to mean that wives may occupy themselves in domestic affairs only, and that any lapse in womanly virtues is not just sin but blasphemy! The context shows that all Christians in Crete were under scrutiny because of their increased religious freedoms and activities. In urging wives to sustain their love and service at home, Paul hopes to forestall blasphemous criticism by unbelievers.
